Day at the beach? Barbecue? Night on the town? Jump into  Wide leg trousers and get with one of the hottest trends this season.  Pants are usually the last thing most women want to wear during the end of spring into summer but this style is definitely an exception.  The Wide leg pant is a great style to wear during the warmer months, because usually they are made from light fabrics such as silk, linen, and chiffon which are made specifically to keep you cool and make you feel breezy.  You can find them in many different vibrant colors and prints to suit your style desires.  I personally love them in both intricate and classic prints like stripes and polka dots.  There are so many ways to wear these fun pants, they look good on almost any body type, and almost any age group can wear them successfully.  There really is no reason not to try them!

Picture
Wide leg pants are comfortable and versatile.  Wear them with a crop top or light buttoned down, even rock them with a chic blazer over a simple bandeau to create an effortlessly sexy look that keeps you cool and classy.  I suggest any type of heel, wedge, or sandal with these.  If you’re vertically challenged like me I suggest opting for wide leg pants made on the high waisted side an adding a crop top, flowy tank, or fitted tank.  Add a belt to your look to cinch your waist an add curves.   Wide leg pants can go from day to night easily by adding the right shoes and accessories.

Many women may be hesitant on trying this style out as they offer a very different type of look that you may not be used to and must wear with confidence.   Take a chance and you may find you've discovered a brand new look for yourself that is not only sexy and stylish, but extremely comfortable and free!

Your Insecurity is showing: Styling the Thin Body

4/15/2014

Picture
From the age of 13 I had always felt insecure about my weight.  Being surrounded by girls who were blooming before me with hips and breasts I always felt somewhat behind an inadequate.  I remember always saying to my mom “I’m too skinny,” and she would always say “for who, for what?” I never really knew the answer to this question I just knew I wanted to gain weight.   The truth was I felt too skinny, for boys, society, for clothes I just felt so small and uncomfortable in my own skin.  While I was in high school I never gained weight and it was hard for me because at that time I wanted a boyfriend, I wanted to be popular just like any girl at that age and I noticed the girls who had boyfriends and were popular all had curves, an although I  was told I had a pretty face it never seemed like it was good enough.  There were clothes I could never wear because my body never fit them right, colors I felt like I couldn't wear because they made me look smaller or juvenile.  At one point I got so down about it I had no appetite at all which caused me to lose more weight.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “you’re too skinny,” or “you need to eat something.”  My lack of self confidence in high school truly limited me and if I could go back  and change it I would just hug myself tight and tell myself you’re fine just the way you are.  My weight insecurities lasted for years after high school.  I wouldn't exercise because I was afraid of losing weight, I would eat almost anything I could get my hands on just to take in calories.  Finally at the age of 22 I started to feel better about my weight, I simply didn't care anymore, didn't care about my lack of hips, breast, thighs or any of it.  For six months I devoted myself to loving me for who I was and becoming comfortable in my skin, I didn’t wear a bra for that entire time.  I did this because I wanted to accept my body and embrace what I had and be proud of it.  I began to realize I didn’t need to be thick or curvy to be sexy and confident.  My body wasn’t made for a man or anyone else to love, it was made for me to love, an eventually that confidence began to exude on the outside and suddenly for the first time body image wasn't stuck in the back of my mind.  I found other things about myself to focus on mentally and physically that made me feel beautiful like, my smile, my eyes, my hair, my spirit and the overall uniqueness of me as a person.

Picture
I think it is a grave misconception that thin women have it easier than bigger woman.   Every time I see a “big is beautiful” or “men don’t’ want a bone” posts it honestly makes me sick.  I think that it is wonderful for any woman to feel good about her body and be proud of it, but I feel it is extremely unnecessary an unfair to tear down another body type to lift another.  Contrary to what many think it is just as hard to be underweight and small as it is to be overweight and big.  There are many similar struggles we deal with, clothes don’t fit right, eating habits must be altered, and men may or may not find you attractive.  You never know what struggle someone is going through so be aware of the things you say and the message you relay onto others concerning body image.  All women are beautiful and fashion has come a long way to make sure every body type has the option to be stylish.  This post is near and dear to my heart as this is something that I’ve personally struggled with for years, styling the thin body.

Styling the thin body may sound easy, but for a woman who is insecure about her weight it is a challenge.  Being skinny can be somewhat uncomfortable and make a woman feel very exposed and paranoid so the goal is to adopt a style that is not only fashionable, but also gives a thinner woman a sense of security as well as maturity.

Picture
1.       Skinny jeans are your friend they were made just for you.  Take advantage of the fact that most skinny jeans will fit you comfortably and therefore should be an important staple in your wardrobe.  These jeans will hug you in all the right places accentuating the overall shape of your legs.  For summer I recommend trying colored or cuffed skinny jeans.  The outfit choices are limitless when you have a great pair of denim.

2.       Wear heels or wedges whenever you have the chance.  Accentuate your leanness with a nice pair of  shoes.  Wedges are a good option if you don’t like to wear heels because they offer more versatility and are a lot more comfortable, you definitely can go further in wedges.  Although heels exude confidence.  Try a pointed or open toe heel.

3.       Stay away from extremely tight or fitted dresses  or tops.  If you are uncomfortable with your weight wearing body hugging attire will only exasperate this insecurity.  Go for more flowy, flirty, loose fitting dresses, and skirts that can be cinched at the waist.  This gives the allusion of curves and allows you to feel more  free and less confined.  Try maxi dresses, or skirts with slits made from light soft fabrics like chiffon and silk.  Loose fitting jumpsuits, shorts, and  rompers are also a great option.   Contrary to what many may think, flowy is just as if not more  sexy than tight, it screams beautiful.

4.       Sport a bangin’ hand bag! A good sized bag can complete any outfit and give you that extra weight you need to feel balanced.  It also gives you something to do with your hands and arms, sometimes being a little lanky leaves room for the awkward hand and arm shuffle dance.  A nice eye popping bag can alleviate this problem.

Picture
1.       Once again wear a blazer.  Having an in between moment about showing off too much skin? Throw on a blazer or even light colored jean jacket over your tank to feel more secure.  You don’t want to cover up your outfit you want to add on to it, and give it an umph of pure style, and nothing does this better than a hot blazer or jean jacket.

2.       Wear accessories that flatter your beauty as a whole.   Go for dainty excessiveness.  Wear long light layered necklaces, delicate body chains an anklets.  These will match your body type and make you feel more confident about it and are so versatile and pretty.

3.       Go braless.  If you have a small chest like I do its okay to go braless for a while.  Not only will it make you feel sexy it will make you feel more and more confident in your own skin.  There are many dresses and tops out there specifically made for women who have small breasts, you just have to have the guts to wear them!

4.       Lastly, take care of your body.  Don’t get used to covering it up by layering bulks of clothes on it to make unrealistic proportions or even wearing black all the time (this makes you look smaller).  Try horizontal stripes to give your body a widened appearance. Tone up those lean muscles, keep your skin moisturized, eat what makes you feel good, an embrace what you have.

Your body type doesn’t make you anymore or any less of a woman.  The true essence and overall beauty comes from within and that is where you’ll find the confidence to accept who you are on the outside and truly be happy.

Take Me Away...

Fresh tropical trends are sweeping the fashion floor this summer so make sure while you sip your mai tai and pina coladas you stay sober enough to maintain your fabulosity on an off the beach!  This season you will see surfboards, tropical sunsets, palm trees, ocean waves and much more an I’m not talking about on that vacation you’ve been saving for all winter,  I’m talking about on your skirts, dresses, and crop tops.  Yes this season it’s time to push the tropical theme to the limit and create a look that makes you look like paradise on legs.

Picture
Create this show stopping look by mix and matching bright colors like hot corals, aqua blues and greens, neon pinks, warm yellows and oranges.  Prints are also important when conquering this look, don’t be afraid of flowers, palm tree leaves, and tribal abstract lines.  Also go for garments where ombre is present, there’s nothing like colors that flow into each other.  Don’t forget those fun accessories, try colorful earrings, bangles, chunky necklaces and lots of gold.  Big hoops will look great on hair that’s swept into a sleek bun or ponytail to show off that gorgeous glow one can only get from the hot summer sun.

No matter what your skin tone is everyone can benefit from a little bronzer.  There's nothing like accentuating your natural glow with a hint of shimmer.  Bronzer for both face an body is perfect for day or night, so glow girl!

Three words to describe  this look: Fresh, juicy, and fun

Accessorize your life

There ‘s nothing better than having the right accessories to go with an outfit.  Accessories can turn any plain inexpensive outfit into a one of a kind head turner.  Sometimes all you need is a pair of earrings or a bold statement necklace to complete your look, you will be surprised at how your confidence grows with the simple addition of a beautiful piece of jewelry whether it be real or costume.

Gold has been in style for many seasons now. When you go to the store looking for fashion jewelry you will most likely see displays upon displays of gold castings. While silver is no less intriguing than gold it simply just is not trending as hard, nevertheless there will always be at least one display completely dedicated to silver if that is your preference.

Picture
My personal favorite piece of jewelry to wear are necklaces.  When it comes to earrings bracelets and rings I couldn’t be anymore simple, but when it comes to neck pieces skies the limit.  The right necklace can do so much for your look and now that spring is here all the bright colored necklaces are in stores and ready to be worn.  Many people become intimidated by buying these colorful pieces because most prefer bold but simple necklaces that go with everything, but the reality is contrary to popular belief not every necklace has to match your outfit completely.  It is actually more stylish and daring to mix and match colors, you’ll be surprised at the outcome. Anyone can match gold with prints but it takes a risk taker to mix the neon with the stripes or hot coral with the purple.

Picture
Now you don’t want to overdo it with the colors, or you’ll end up looking like a Crayola themed Christmas tree.  Sometimes less is more, if you have on a statement neck reach for the stud earrings instead of the dangles.  If you’re wearing hand jewelry on one hand leave the other hand free of bracelets.  Accessories are meant to compliment your style as well as your beauty, they are the final touch to make you feel like a shining star and show off your personality.  Anyone can put on clothes but those accessories truly do complete the look. Whether they are bold or simple that little sparkle makes a big difference.

Blaze up

3/28/2014

Picture
Looking for a new sleek summer style can be a daunting task, so to make it easier I'm sharing one of my favorite, simple, most stylish styles, the blazer and shorts combo.  I really love this look  for it's simplicity yet chic appeal.  You can easily go from day to night by simply adding a hot pair of heels matched with a clutch, a little jewelry and lipstick and you're out the door fabulous!  Most women want to wear shorts in the summer time, but can sometimes feel uncomfortable with showing too much skin  or the shorts themselves are too short.  Putting a blazer on adds that touch of class you need to really feel stylish and confident.

The blazer is what really makes this this look work.  Blazers are a must have in your closet, you don't have to have 20 different kinds, but there are staple ones that can completely turn your outfit to city sleek in seconds:

1. The black blazer: You can never go wrong with this one, it doesn't need to be anything over the top, it just has to fit right, and be a good length that allows you to wear it with many different types of outfits from dresses to jeans comfortably.

2. The white blazer:   This is truly only to be worn in the spring and summer months.  Because it's white, it will most likely be light in weight which is perfect for these seasons.   It also matches with just about anything and can give you that pop of brightness you're looking for.

3. The khaki blazer:  This blazer is actually optional you don't necessarily need this one, but it's  a great one to have.  Seeing as in the warmer months we tend to wear brighter, and softer colors along with lots of floral and bolder prints, this blazer can be used to pull all of that together and create a successful unison look.

Picture
The Chiffon blazer is in a class all its own, because we do not see it as often.  With the seasons becoming hotter you may find it harder to pull out your regular blazers and feel comfortable in them, but you still want to have that chic look that they bring to an outfit.

A chiffon blazer is a great option, because chiffon is one of the lightest fabrics you can wear in the summer.  The breeze moves right through it allowing your skin to breathe and relieving you of the heat.  The chiffon blazer still offers the same type of look as a regular one but without the bulk an a dash of sheer sexiness that every woman wants.

Picture
Complete the blazer and shorts look by rolling up those sleeves and adding a beautiful bracelet bash.  Accessories is key to any outfit and this one is no exception.  A trendy stack of bracelets mixed in with your favorite watch can top off this look and add that hint of sparkle you need, day or night.

Creating the perfect outfit is all in the details, anyone can put on clothes, but it's those added personal touches that makes it truly yours.  3 words for this look are: Stylish, chic, and sexy.

We don't Sweat we Sparkle

PictureTom Ford Spring 2014
Sparkle is in this season ladies, and whatever your style is you’re going to love these flashy head turning embellishments. Whether they are  shiny crystals, sequins or an array of lackluster beads sewn into an intricate design these small beautiful touches of shine turn a regular outfit into a one of kind banger that can’t help but be envied.  While the thought of sparkle maybe intimidating for some there are other ways to achieve this look without looking like a complete disco ball.  Heavily embroidered  designs  are a fabulous alternative to the blinged out look as these designs offer the same intricate style complete with different colors and patterns without the flash.  Statement jewelry is also a safe option as this allows you to better control the amount of sparkle you want to wear.  With the right necklace one can easily make the illusion that her crystal jewels are actually attached to her plain t-shirt as a star studded neckline.

Picture
Don’t feel like spending a fortune on this glamorous trend?  Do it yourself! With the right materials you can update your past season wardrobe to match today’s popular look, it’s easier than you think and can completely change your clothes from drab to fab in a matter of minutes.  Check out how these regular denim shorts went from plain to sequin fame by clicking on the pictures.

I personally am in love with any kind of embellishment.  Not only because of the way it looks, but I can appreciate the work it takes to create such beautiful designs.  If you haven’t jumped onto the hype of embellishments now is the time to take a chance, and try a look you've never had before. You may be pleasantly surprised at your new found confidence to sparkle without remorse. Three words to describe this trend; Bold, edgy, and fierce.

Highly sought after artist Sue Tsai has become a big deal in the urban  art/fashion industry the 26 year old business woman reigning from Queens NY has successfully created a name for herself by delivering one of a kind pieces of artwork to the scene.   You have most likely seen her work numerous times without realizing it was hers. Rap artist Wale has her portrait of a heartless woman as his cover art for his popular single, “Bad.” Since then Sue Tsai’s popularity has grown to new heights.

Picture
Her beautiful “Heartbreak on Canvas,” collection delivers a message of empowerment through art to women going through troubled times in their lives specifically focusing on love.  These pieces are very much inspiring conveying a sense of strength, courage, and independence, something that all women can relate to when dealing with love lost.

Not only a painter, Sue Tsai started out her creative career designing jewelry which has been worn by numerous celebrities including, Rihanna, Jim Jones, an Angela Simmons.  Her success does not stop there however.  Sue Tsai has gone far beyond just painting her artwork on canvas’ she has taken these unique images and put them on actual merchandise for all to enjoy in different ways.  You can find her work on iPhone cases, pillows, buttons, shot glasses and more.  Her artwork is also displayed on clothing that she calls, “Artparel” including t-shirts, tanks, and sweatshirts.

Picture
I admire Sue Tsai for her talent and overall nonstop hustle to success.  Her work is captivating and thought provoking.  In a world where actual painted artwork these days tends to go unnoticed with the expansion of technology, it is refreshing to know that there are still artist out there like Sue Tsai whom have not given up on their dreams to not only do what they love, but turn what they love into a successful business based on their own vision.  While many may not find her work tasteful I can appreciate her courage to simply do it anyway and believe in her talent.  You never know what you can achieve until you actually go outside the norm and take a risk.  With work that is perfected and grind that is undeniable Sue Tsai is a Worldwide Woman of the Week.
